Studying Medicine in the USA: The MD Pathway Explained

There is no direct MBBS after Class 12 in the USA. Students first complete a bachelor’s degree, then a four-year Doctor of Medicine (MD) program.

Why students consider USA

  • World-class medical education and research
  • Strong career prospects for those who match into US residency

Check before you apply

  • Total time of about eight years after school (bachelor’s plus MD)
  • Very high costs and limited seats for international students
  • Entrance requirements such as the MCAT
  • Practising in India afterwards still requires meeting NMC rules

Always verify: confirm the university’s current eligibility under NMC rules (nmc.org.in), its official fees, and the latest Indian government travel advisory for USA before paying anything.
