About ₹30-45 lakh total

Where: Russia, Armenia, and better-resourced universities in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

The trade-off: more choice of established state universities, but cold climates in many cities and a local language to learn. In Russia, plan how fees and living money will be paid. See MBBS in Russia.

About ₹45-65 lakh total

Where: Georgia, Bangladesh, the Philippines.

The trade-off: a more comfortable climate or a curriculum closer to India’s, at a higher price. In Georgia check accreditation and hospital access; in the Philippines check the MD-only duration rule; in Bangladesh check the current situation. Guides: Georgia, Philippines, Nepal and Bangladesh.

Above ₹65 lakh total

Where: Nepal, and most of Europe.

The trade-off: Nepal offers proximity and an Indian-style curriculum; Europe offers strong universities but competitive entry, local languages and an internship structure that must be checked against NMC rules. See MBBS in Europe. At this budget, also compare honestly with Indian private colleges.

Rules that apply to every budget

  1. Choose the university, not the country. The gap between universities in one country is often larger than between countries.
  2. Budget for six years plus. Add licensing exam preparation and possibly a year in India before you start earning.
  3. Assume fees will rise. Plan for yearly increases and exchange-rate changes. A small difference in the rupee rate across six years of payments can add lakhs.
  4. Keep a buffer of at least one year’s living costs for emergencies.
  5. Pay smartly. Compare your bank’s rate with a student fee transfer service such as BookMyForex before each payment, and keep every receipt.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest country for MBBS abroad?

Kyrgyzstan generally has the lowest total cost, followed by Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Choose the university very carefully, because quality varies widely at this price level.

Can I do MBBS abroad within ₹20 lakh?

Tuition alone can fall within ₹15-25 lakh in Kyrgyzstan, but once hostel, food, flights and other costs are added, a realistic total is higher. Budget for about ₹25-35 lakh.

Is a cheaper university always worse?

No, but low fees sometimes come with fewer hospital rotations or very large batches. Check hospitals, teaching language and licensing exam results, not just fees.

Do fees increase every year?

Often, yes. Ask for a written fee schedule for all years and plan for exchange-rate changes.
