Surviving Your First Winter Abroad

Students from warm parts of India often find their first winter abroad the hardest part of settling in.

  • Dress in layers: thermal innerwear, a warm jacket, gloves and waterproof shoes.
  • Buy winter clothes locally: they are usually better suited and often cheaper.
  • Get daylight and exercise to lift your mood in dark months.
  • Keep your room heated and check the hostel’s heating before you arrive.
  • Eat well: warm, balanced meals help you stay healthy.
